The event was, by all accounts, a success.  All of our objectives were met.  My "Thank you's" are noted on the LWCA Message Board.

Text of John Nyman's speech:

"Today we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the community's purchase of Lake Winona.

Lake Winona is a man-made 11-acre lake built in the early 50's by the real estate developer, the Arthur Crane Company.  It is and has been the centerpiece of this pocket community of 200 properties and is a focal point for many community events and activities.

On January 12, 1982, the Lake Winona Club purchased Lake Winona.  At that time the community took responsibility for keeping Lake Winona in a safe and healthy condition.  We probably didn't know at that time the full extent of what that responsibility would mean.  The facilities and the Dam suffered erosion and structural damage as a consequence of Hurricane Floyd and the Flood of 2000.  The future of Lake Winona was uncertain.

But rather than wallow in despair, the Flood of 2000 served as a wake-up call for the Lake Winona Civic Association.  We decided that if we wanted to have a Lake at all, we would need to take an aggressive stance and move the organization forward.

Over the past 20 years, the LWCA has survived, if not thrived, despite a steady decline in volunteerism and Membership.  This year, we feel we are turning the corner as we have seen an increase in Membership and a renewed dedication to preserving Lake Winona.

This year, in our effort to revitalize our sense of community, the facilities got a facelift.  And work has begun to improve our Civic Center.  We have a full calendar of activities and events, and we are reaching out to all our neighbors to join us.  On top of that, still we are tasked with raising quite a lot of money to rebuild the Dam's spillway.  Your assistance today will help to restore and conserve Lake Winona for generations to come.

Today's celebration is the biggest event we've ever held at Lake Winona.  We've taken a chance.  And we trust the community will show support.  Please help to make this celebration a success!  Buy a commemorative t-shirt and plenty of raffle tickets!

Have a great afternoon, enjoy the finest music on earth, and let's make this a wonderful day to be long remembered!"
