LWCA E-NEWS 1

For you lucky Lake Winona people with e-mail addresses, here's the skinny of what's going on "behind the scenes" in Lake Winona.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Floyd and the Flood of 2000, the LWCA applied for and was granted disaster assistance in the form of a low-interest load of $29,800 from the US Small Business Administration.  We will have to pay this money back at $199 a month for 15 years if we use the entire approved loan amount.  There is no pre-payment penalty either, so if we can generate enough support through fundraisers, raffles, and volunteering, we can pay back the loan sooner, rather than later.

These funds will go towards replacement of the footbridge and dock and restoration of the beach and grounds.  As soon as the ground thaws, we will be out there working.  We hope to see a good turnout at our clean-up dates.

LAKE WINONA CALENDAR:

Civic Center Clean Up Day:  April 7, 10 AM.  Our building needs some loving care.  If you can help us out with some time, elbow grease and/or cleaning supplies, contact Karen Natale, coordinator for this occasion, at 663-5456 or e-mail her at KRNatale@aol.com

General Meeting:  April 19, 7:30 PM.  This quarterly meeting is an opportunity for the community to meet with your neighbors and the LWCA Executive Board to discuss common concerns and to learn of the plans for the coming season at Lake Winona.  Refreshments will be served.

Outdoor Clean Up Weekend:  April 21, All day (Rain date Sunday April 22).  We have a lot of rehabilitation work to tackle and the more hands on hand to share this work, the better it will be for everyone.  If you have any unique tools or talents with which you can help, contact our maintenance coordinator David DellaVolpe at 663-5537.

"Getting to Know Your Neighborhood Birds":  an educational lecture and demonstration:  mid-May (date TBA).

Featuring: Dr. John Smallwood, Ph.D.  All are welcome!  Learn some of the basic characteristics of birds!  Learn how to identify the different birds in and around your yard!  See some of these birds up close during the bird-banding demonstration!

REMINDERS:

If you haven't paid the 2001 Lake Rights Fee, please do so now.  Way too much time and expense if wasted in rebilling and notifying delinquent accounts.

The 2001-2001 Membership year starts April 1.  A discount is offered to on-time applications.  Only LWCA Members in possession of a current Membership Card are entitled to the use of the beach, swimming area and playground facilities.   We would love to see every family in the community join together in membership in this worthwhile organization.  The Application for Membership was recently mailed out to everyone and also can be found on our web site.

We are in a rebuilding mode and everyone in the community will benefit from this effort.  Please join!
