Happy February neighbors!

Here is some Lake Winona information that we think you might want to know.

          1.  The State and the Dam

The Emergency Action Plan for the Lake Winona Dam that we submitted to the State of NJ DEP, Dam Safety Division, has been reviewed and returned to us for corrections, the inundation area mapping and some other data that can only be provided by our engineer (read=”$$$”).

Our engineer is working on completing the Hazard Assessment Study for the Dam.  The data collected for this study will be applicable to the EAP.  We hope to have this done by the end of the month.

It looks like the “window of opportunity” is rapidly vanishing to get the swimming area dredged during this winter.  We did receive the permit application from the DEP for dredging but, unfortunately, most of the data they require can only by ascertained by engineering studies.  The engineering fees (again read=”$$$”) as well as the $2000 (!) permit fee, added to the contractor’s fee would put this project at well over $5000.

          2.  Lake Fees

As of January 31, 103 Lake Winona Property owners are current with the 2002 Lake Fees.  Additionally, our lawyer has written to over 40 delinquent property owners to try to recoup past unpaid fees.  If you haven't sent in your check yet, please do so!  You can also send the money electronically to us through www.PayPal.com.

          3.  Membership

Membership applications for the 2002-2003 year will soon be mailed out.  There is no increase in the dues, but the organization will still need to raise additional money to pay for the Dam and Lake projects.  Look for some raffles and (fun) fund raising activities this year.

          4.  Web site

With the demise of our “MailAndNews” email account, we have made some corrections to the Lake Winona http://LWCA.cjb.net and Message Board http://www.voy.com/43195 sites. There is an updated Treasurers Report, the By-Laws were revised to incorporate the amendment approved at the last General Meeting in October, and some links were updated.

We hope that you enjoy the rest of the season and plan to join us in the spring!  Thanks for your support!
