WINONA FOLK NEWS

We're very excited to offer our first compilation CD featuring music from 20 of the artists who have graced the Winona Folk stage during our first year. Most of the copies are going to be distributed to FM and web radio stations, newspapers and music magazines to attract attention to the artists and Winona Folk. There are a limited number of copies being sold at the Winona Folk Concerts, through this website and through CD BABY that will defray the costs of producing the CD. What a terrific way to bring the music from Winona Folk into your home! A huge thanks to all the contributing artists who gave permission and waived royalties to make this project happen! Read some more: The Artists From Our Freshman Year.

On July 9, 2004, John Nyman (gasp!) talked about the Winona Folk Acoustic Music Concerts on WNTI-FM (91.9) on "Artists Up Close with Beth & Jules." The interview also featured music from a number of artists who have appeared at Winona Folk: John Sheehan, GrooveLily, Dan Pelletier, Patti Witten and Steve Kunzman. However, in respect for their copyrights, the music has been excised from this program edit. Buy their CDs! Listen to the show. For the best radio station in this area that supports independent musicians, listen to WNTI, which also streams on the web: www.wnti.org

November 12, 2003 we tried something different with a video screening of "Don't Look Back"! More concert videos are planned.

Our October 18, 2003 concert was part of Daniel Pearl Music Day, an annual global concert celebrating the ideals of tolerance, friendship and shared humanity. Daniel Pearl Music Day was inspired by the life and work of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl, who would have turned 40 on October 10th. Winona Folk joined people around the world in a tribute to all the visionary men and women who use the power of music to lift the unity of mankind above the differences the set us apart. Through our music today, we reaffirm our conviction that humanity will triumph and harmony will prevail. You can read about Daniel Pearl Music Day HERE.

Winona Folk was featured in AIM Action News on February 5, 2003 in the Local Happenings section. AIM is a weekly newspaper distributed throughout the Jefferson Township and Oak Ridge communities. You can read the article HERE .
